C18-TEst3-passage1
materials to take us beyond concrete
5.encouraging SB to do,
8.in term of 是在… Construction experts say that wooden buildings can be constructed at a greater speed than ones of concrete and steel and the process, it seems, is quieter.
9. environmental advantage of cement alternatives may not be as great as initially assumed ,
12. 原话是`Some novel cements have been discussed for more than a decade within the research community, without breaking through. At present, these alternatives are rarely as cost-effective as conventional cement, and they face raw-material shortages and resistance from customers.
C18-TEst3-passage2
steam car
原文写的是seek invest in his automobile design, which he used to open a compangy。
green roofs
13. 题干说的是“在E段落提到的绿色顶棚新的概念两个主要的目的”,文中原词是“there are also combinations of green roofs with solar panels”,这里solar panels指的是太阳能板,所以对应D选项的“通过稳定来源收集能量”。
C18-test4-passage2
growth mindset
16. 原文说 fixed mindset led them fear of failure and lack of effort,所以我选了A,让他们变得缺少竞争性。
这个题也是没找到段落,而且即使找到了当时也没读懂这句话,不过后面有一个not just making students feel good,感觉feel good跟boost morale不是一个意思,就没选。
C15-test2-passage2
Should we try to bring extinct species back to life?
18. 题干说的是这个哥们研究如何低于寒冷,所以我这里写trying to indentify “cold resistance” which enabled mammoths to live in the tundra.
23. 我理解题干的意思是“重新介绍一个灭绝物种对于它自己的习性可能会提升它生活在这里的健康”,但是实际意思是“Reintroducing an extinct species to its original habitat could improve the health of a particular species living there.
24. 我理解题干的意思是“汇总动物灭绝的原因很重要”concentrate(集中 专心于),这个题的对应原文是“She prefers to focus the debate on how this emerging technology could be used to fully understand why various species went extinct in the first place”,in the first place是“起初”的意思,而且这句话让我有错觉,以为表达她的态度。
25. 我理解题干的意思是“一个灭绝的物种复活是非常有好处的,影响到他的vegetation (生长)”,实际意思是“A species brought back from extinction could have an important beneficial impact on the vegetation of its habitat.
in the first place 最开始,起初 pop up breed 繁殖 scatter 散开 disturbance 扰乱 骚乱
C15-test1-passage2
- schemes for __ will be more workable,什么的日程安排会更有工作化。 Automation means that initiatives for “car-sharing” become much more viable, particularly in urban areas with significant travel demand。
- 这题错的不应该,原题percent drop in __ of cars.
C20-Test1-passage2
Return of the elm: reintroducing the beloved tree to Britain
原文是“reference to the research problems that arise from there being only a few surviving large elms”指的是由于仅存少量大型榆树而引发的研究问题。
15. 我理解题干的意思是“关于elm对于英国而言的价值需要被重新审视的一些不同看法”, 原文是”details of a difference of opinion about the value of reintroducing elms to Britain”,这里reintroducing是“重新引入”的意思。
Sometimes the best thing you can do is just give nature time to recover
C19-Test2-Passage3
An inquiry into the existence of the gifted child – 这里是inquiry(调查研究),不是injury(受伤)
原文是“Of course, the most rewarding part is the “Aha” moment, the excitement of discovery and enjoyment of understanding something new”,就是恍然大悟的那个时刻,我觉得很有成就感的,答案是很满足的,我也不知道说啥了。
went on to outperform others
Einstein was upset by the public’s view of his life’s work.
37. put his success down to 把成功归功于…
原文是在“most individuals can reach levels of performance associated in school with the gifted and talented. However, they must be taught the right attitudes and approaches to their learning and develop the attributes(归因于、特性、特质) of high performers - curiosity, persistence and hard work”
C19-Test1-Passage3
The Unselfish Gene
28. “It presented a view that was in line with the attitudes of its time.“它所表达的观点与当时的社会态度相符。原文是”it fitted so well with - and helped to justify - the competitive and individualistic ethos that was so prevalent in late 20th-century societies.“ prevalent 流行
(Negative traits(特点) are more apparent in some modern cultures than in others.)
C20-Test1-Passage3
How stress affects our judgement
The regular changes of stress levels in their working lives make them ideal study subjects.(他们日常工作中压力水平的频繁变化使得他们成为理想的研究对象。)
32. thought it more likely that they would experience something bad.(认为自己更有可能遭遇坏事。)
33. behaved(行为举止) in a similar manner, regardless of the circumstances.(表现如常,并不会因场景不同而变化。)
35.
【生词】 quite a bit 相当多 conscientious 尽职尽责的 likelihood 可能性 pattern 图案、模式 weigh up 权衡 perceive 感知
C15-test1-passage3
What is exploration(探险)?
从文中“Thomas Hardy set some of his novels in Egdon Heath”,可以看出heath这个是一个小说的设定。
30. 原文写的是“We think back to a golden age, as if exploration peaked somehow in the 19th century - as if the process of discovery is now on the decline, though the truth is that we have named only one and a half million of this planet’s species, and there may be more than 10 million - and that’s not including bacteria.”
32. 原文关键句是最后一句“and this is what interests me: how a fresh interpretation, even of a well-travelled route, can give its readers new insights.”
33. Wilfred Thesiger, who crossed Arabia’s Empty Quarter in 1946, and belongs to an era of unmechanised travel now lost to the rest of us, told me, ‘If I’d gone across by camel when I could have gone by car, it would have been a stunt.’ To him, exploration meant bringing back information from a remote place regardless of any great self-discovery. He referred to the relevance of the form of transport used.
35. Then Robin Hanbury-Tenison, a campaigner on behalf of remote so-called ‘tribal’ peoples, said, ‘A traveller simply records information about some far-off world, and reports back; but an explorer changes the world.’ He worked for the benefit of specific groups of people.
36. 还是33题那个人,关键词“ regardless of any great self-discovery.”。 He did not consider learning about oneself an essential part of exploration.
F段的原话是“We should remind ourselves that we’re not the first person to procrastinate, nor the last.”
16. neurological evidence of a link between procrastination and emotion
23. 题干写的是“Which TWO comparisons(对比) between employees who often procrastinate and those who do not are mentioned in the text?” 这里要注意,说是“empolyees who often 拖延” and“those who do not”,也就是“拖延的员工和不拖延的员工的comparison(比较)在文中被提起的两点”。
30. The hundred-mile-an-hour fastball led to a more exciting style of play. 原文是“The results showed that everyone wanted more action: more hits, more defense, more baserunning. This type of baseball essentially hasn’t existed since the 1960s, when the hundred-mile-an-hour fastball, which is difficult to hit and control, entered the game. It flattened the game into strikeouts, walks, and home runs—a type of play lacking much action.”
但是我选的A,意思是说可能比赛会有错误,这个是不对的,因为原文写的是“compared with a human’s, the robot’s strike zone seems too precise(精确的、准确的、确切的、精密的或严谨的)”,这里precise词没反应过来意思,所以错了。
C20-test3-passage2
Can the planet’s coral reefs be saved?
14. Two clear educational goals,
25. 原文是“These polyps are transparent but get their brilliant tones of pink, orange, blue, green, etc. from algae that live within them, which in turn get protection, while their photosynthesising of the sun’s rays provides nutrients for the polyps.”
【其他】 as well as = and
C20-test3-passage3
Robots and us
Should robots be used to colonise other planets?
Martin Rees:should be preserved with a status that is analogous to Antarctica here on Earth
Daniel Wolpert:
Kathleen Richardson:
How soon will machine intelligence outstrip human intelligence?
Martin Rees:Should we feel guilty about exploiting [sophisticated robots]? Should we fret if they are underemployed, frustrated, or bored?’
Daniel Wolpert:Expecting a machine close to the creative intelligence of a human within the next 50 years would be highly ambitious.
Kathleen Richardson:
Should we be scared by advances in artificial intelligence?
Martin Rees:I think we should ensure that robots remain as no more than “idiot savants” lacking the capacity to outwit us, even though they may greatly surpass us in the ability to calculate and process information.’
Daniel Wolpert:Similarly, while there may be misuses of robotics in the near future, the benefits that they will bring are likely to outweigh these negative aspects。
Kathleen Richardson:Not all fear [robots]; many people welcome machine intelligence。
What can science fiction tell us about robotics?
Martin Rees:
Daniel Wolpert:
Kathleen Richardson:
The ideas in high-quality science fiction may prove to be just as accurate as those found in the work of mediocre scientists.
- There are those who look forward to robots developing greater intelligence。
- What potential advance does Rees see as a cause for concern?
C18-test3-passage3
The case for mixed-ability classes
The case for mixed-ability classes
30. C. the assistance given to a student in their initial stages of learning
33. disadvantaged backgrounds
34. These students tend to have much higher representation of low socioeconomic class.
Streaming students by diagnosed achievement automatically limits what the teacher feels the student is capable of.
Streaming students by diagnosed achievement automatically limits what the teacher feels the student is capable of.
39. The priority should be to ensure that the highest-achieving students attain their goals.
40. Taking part in collaborative outdoor activities with teachers and classmates can improve student outcomes in the classroom.
C18-test4-passage3
Alfred Wegener: science, exploration and the theory of continental drift
29. Wegener relied on a limited range of scientific fields to support his theory of continental drift.
30. The similarities between Wegener’s theory of continental drift and modern-day plate tectonics are enormous. 原文我看是“Wegener’s idea – that the continents move – is at the heart of the theory that guides Earth sciences today: namely plate tectonics. Plate tectonics is in many respects quite different from Wegener’s proposal, in the same way that modern evolutionary theory is very different from the ideas Charles Darwin proposed in the 1850s about biological evolution.”
38. C选项的C. He did not adopt many of the scientific practices of the time. 当时没认出来adopt(收养、采取) adapt(改编、适应) adept(擅长)。
C15-test3-passage1
Henry Moore (1898–1986)
- After leaving school, Moore hoped to become a sculptor, but instead he complied with his father’s wish that he train as a school teacher.
C13-test1-passage1
Case Study: Tourism New Zealand website
8. The website www.newzealand.com aimed to provide ready-made itineraries and packages for travel companies and individual tourists. 这个其实原文写了是一个“The website was set up to allow both individuals and travel organisations to create itineraries and travel packages to suit their own needs and interests.”
9. It was found that most visitors started searching on the website by geographical location. 原文说的是“On the website, visitors can search for activities not solely by geographical location, but also by the particular nature of the activity.”
C13-test2-passage1
Bringing cinnamon to Europe
- It was known in biblical times, and is mentioned in several books of the Bible, both as an ingredient that was mixed with oils for anointing people’s bodies, 这里生词是ingredient(混合物)和anointing(涂油,用油擦)
- In ancient Rome, mourners attending funerals burnt cinnamon to create a pleasant scent. Most often, however, the spice found its primary use as an additive to food and drink.
- Cinnamon was also reported to have health benefits, and was thought to cure various ailments, such as indigestion.这道题就是B站一个博主说的such as的问题,indigestion(消化不良)。
- The spice trade maintained its economic importance during the 19th century. 我看到原文的“By the middle of the 19th century, production of cinnamon reached 1,000 tons a year, after a lower grade quality of the spice became acceptable to European tastes.”我就以为是对的,其实后面还有“By that time,…” 所以后半句是很重要的,“Not only was a monopoly of cinnamon becoming impossible, but the spice trade overall was diminishing in economic potential, and was eventually superseded by the rise of trade in coffee, tea, chocolate, and sugar.” superseded这个是关键词,被超越的意思。

Roman tunnels
原文是“In the early first millennium BCE, they introduced the qanat method of tunnel construction, which consisted of placing posts over a hill in a straight line, to ensure that the tunnel kept to its route, and then digging vertical shafts down into the ground at regular intervals.”
- Only experienced builders were employed to construct a tunnel using the counterexcavation method. 原文写的是“This method required greater planning and advanced knowledge of surveying, mathematics and geometry as both ends of a tunnel had to meet correctly at the center of the mountain.”
- What type of mineral were the Dolaucothi mines in Wales built to extract? 原文写的是“Traces of such tunnels used to mine gold can still be found at the Dolaucothi mines in Wales.”
- In addition to the patron, whose name might be carved onto a tunnel? Most tunnels had inscriptions showing the names of patrons who ordered construction and sometimes the name of the architect.

Adapting to the effects of climate change
14. how a type of plant functions as a natural protection for coastlines。这个题当时做的时候没时间了,就看F段写的是“种树降温”就选了F,其实是C,原文写的是“There have been many attempts to restore the island’s coastal mangroves: ecosystems of trees and shrubs that help defend coastal areas by trapping sediment in their net-like root systems, elevating the sea bed and dampening the energy of waves and tidal currents.”
17. a mention of a technology used to locate areas most in need of intervention。这个题其实是F,原文写的是“Using a Geographic Information System data mapping tool, the programme identified streets with low tree canopy cover in three of the city’s neighbourhoods and covered them with a light-grey, light-reflecting coating, which had already been shown to lower road surface temperature in Los Angeles by 6°C.”
20. 这个题比较难,因为根据not-for-profit关键字定位到原文是“a not-for-profit organisation that has been researching and retrofitting amphibious houses since 2006”。
23. It is essential to adopt strategies which involve and help residents of the region.
26. The number of locations requiring action to adapt to flooding has grown in recent years.

MAKING EVERY DROP COUNT

A new role for livestock guard dogs
30. claims by different academics that the use of livestock guard dogs is a successful way of protecting farmers’ herds。 academics(学者)
33. Claims of a change in behaviour from those using livestock guard dogs may not be totally accurate.(使用牲畜护卫犬的人声称行为发生了改变,这种说法可能并不完全准确。)原文是“but warned that such self-reported results must be taken with a pinch of salt.”“A pinch of salt” 字面意思是“一撮盐”(用拇指和食指捏起的一小撮),在习语 take it with a pinch of salt 中文通常译为“持保留态度”、“半信半疑”、“听听就好”或“不可尽信”,
39. They may also compete with other carnivores for food.
‘There is common ground from the livestock perspective and from the conservation perspective,’ she says. ‘If ranchers don’t have a dead cow, they will not make a call to apply for a permit to kill a wolf.’ ‘There is common ground from the livestock perspective and from the conservation perspective,’ she says. ‘If ranchers don’t have a dead cow, they will not make a call to apply for a permit to kill a wolf.’

The Truth about the Environment
30. Extinct species are being replaced by new species.
31. It would be best to attempt to slow down economic growth. 这个原文写的是 therefore best cured not by restricting economic growth, but by accelerating it. therefore (因此)
One form of pollution - the release of greenhouse gases that causes global warming - does appear to be a phenomenon that is going to extend well into our future, but its total impact is unlikely to pose a devastating problem. A bigger problem may well turn out to be an inappropriate response to it. “extend well into our future”说明是长期作战,“inappropriate”说的是不合适,所以要用right way。

A trade organisation arguing for, say, weaker pollution controls is instantly seen as self-interested. Yet a green organisation opposing such a weakening is seen as altruistic, even if an impartial view of the controls in question might suggest they are doing more harm than good.
其实根因是定位定错了,应该看“Bakelite had the distinction of being the first totally synthetic thermosetting plastic”这句话,因为主语是bakelite。
5. 原文是“Other substances were then introduced: including fillers, such as woodflour, asbestos or cotton, which increase strength and moisture resistance, catalysts (substances to speed up the reaction between two chemicals without joining to either) and hexa, a compound of ammonia and formaldehyde which supplied the additional formaldehyde necessary to form a thermosetting resin.” 这里我写的是substances(物质),更准确的应该是fillers(填充物),多看几个词就看到了,这个以后要注意。
9&10. Which TWO of the following factors influencing the design of Bakelite objects are mentioned in the text? 原文有“The object could not be designed so that it was locked into the mould and therefore difficult to extract.”
13. Bakelite was only available in a limited range of colours. bakelite只有有限的几个颜色可以选择。 原文是“Electrical manufacturers seized on its insulating properties, and consumers everywhere relished its dazzling array of shades, delighted that they were now, at last, no longer restricted to the wood tones and drab browns of the preplastic era.”这里关键词是shade(阴凉处、阴影、色调、灯罩或遮光物)有色调的意思,所以这里选false。
